Like Senior Like Junior: Guti's Real Madrid youth team complete historic treble

Image
With a Champions Cup and league title already wrapped up, Guti led Real Madrid's Juvenil youth team into this Sunday's Copa del Rey final against Atletico Madrid with a treble on the line - and they secured it. By defeating their city rivals 4-1, the youngsters made history and lifted yet another trophy. As has been the case throughout this campaign, Oscar took the initiative for Los Blancos and scored the opener from a free-kick in the 12th minute.Los Rojiblancos did pull level just before half-time, though, with their own Oscar giving Guti plenty to think about at the break.   Neither side could score in the second half, yet a terrific display in extra-time saw Real finish up as 4-1 winners, just like in the 2014 Champions League final, with Alberto, Toni and Gelabert scoring the goals. It means that the only trophy to have eluded Guti's youngsters this season was the UEFA Youth League, a tournament in which they fell at the semi-final stage. Source: Marca.com

Ramos to chase Manolo Sanchis' record

Image
Barely 19 years old when Florentino Perez broke the transfer record for a Spanish teenager in the summer of 2005, Sergio Ramos is now poised to continue his journey at Real Madrid. With less than 40 LaLiga appearances under his belt, Perez did not shy away from snatching the full-back from Sevilla for a whopping 27 million euros. Twelve illustrious and celebrated years later, which have included 18 titles, the president has announced that he will be renewing the captain's contract until 2021, taking the Spaniard to 16 years at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. The 31-year-old has the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Los Blancos legend Manolo Sanchis, the centre-back who spent 18 years with the first-team. Currently, the Andalusian boasts an impressive 522 games and 68 goals, but those figures will increase as the defender chases down the historical landmark. He would have to compete until he is 37 (playing until 2023), to equal Sanchis' longevity in the capital but the

Anthony Joshua says Tyson Fury was 'boring' in win over Wladimir Klitschko

Image
Anthony Joshua has aimed another verbal jab at Tyson Fury by describing his British rival's win over Wladimir Klitschko as "boring". Joshua shared a dramatic fight with Klitschko at Wembley in April, which saw him climb off the canvas to produce a stunning 11th-round stoppage victory. Fury criticised Joshua's performance in comparison to his own points win over Klitschko, branding the 27-year-old as a 'pumped up weight-lifter' , but the WBA 'super' and IBF title holder has issued a dismissive response.  "He didn't throw a punch. He didn't come to fight," Joshua exclusively told Sky Sports. "He just walked around the ring for like 12 rounds, it's boring. It's not winning, it's how you win. "His stock didn't rise. Your stock has got to rise and he could have had the better win, but when people look at it, many years after, ask them whose fight they will remember." Joshua believ

CAFCC: Eguma Labels Rivers United Vs KCCA ‘Do Or Die’ Clash

Image
Rivers United Technical Manager, Stanley Eguma, has stated in clear terms that Tuesday's CAF Confederations Cup match against Ugandan league champions KCCA is a 'do or die' for The Pride of Rivers . Eguma's side are rocked bottom in the group with three points from three games, but a win for the Pride of Rivers against  KCCA will put their campaign back on track while a defeat or a draw may end their dreams of a berth in the next round. Rivers United lost 2-1 in the reverse fixture at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Kampala on June 3. "It's a big game in the continent, and we know the task ahead. It's like a do or die affair for us," Eguma began in a chat with  Completesportsnigeria.com . "We know the strength of our opponent on Tuesday, and we need to be at our best to get the maximum points and  be in contention to qualification for the next round. "Our plans is to win and I think we are on course."

MARADONA: SAMPAOLI IS NO BETTER THAN SACKED BAUZA

Image
D iego Maradona criticised the appointment of Jorge Sampaoli as Argentina coach, saying the Copa America winning manager was no better than his disappointing predecessor. Sampaoli took over as Argentina coach earlier this month in place of Edgardo Bauza, who was sacked after recording only three wins in eight games. The 57-year-old Sampaoli, in contrast, has led Argentina to victory in his first two games -- but that was not good enough for Maradona. "Sampaoli doesn't know any more than Bauza," Maradona told Argentine channel TyC on Monday. "If he (Sampaoli) hadn't beaten us in the (2015 Copa America) final (while coaching) Chile then not even his family would know who he was." Maradona also vented his anger at Sampaoli's decision to leave out Manchester City's Sergio Aguero for the friendlies against Brazil and Singapore. "It was madness leaving out Kun (Aguero)," added Maradona. "Kun gives you much more speed, he brings

Image
R esponsible for defining the rules of football worldwide and its future modifications, the International Football Association Board (IFAB) have introduced the document 'Play Fair!' which includes several proposals that would revolutionize the world of football if they are finally approved. All of them will be studied in depth at the next IFAB general assembly in March 2018. "It is a radical document, and we can say that it is a silent revolution designed to make football even better," David Elleray, IFAB's technical director, said to The Times. "It's about studying the rules and looking at what purpose each of them serves. According to marca.com. 1- Two halves of 30 minutes No more wasted time. The clock would stop whenever the ball is not in game like in basketball. 2- Goal of punishment A goal given instead of a penalty should foul play occur in the area. 3- Changes for corner kicks and fouls With corner kicks and fouls, the pla

Game time is now or never, says Chelsea's Omeruo

Image
Nigeria international Kenneth Omeruo says he won't stay at Chelsea if he is not guaranteed regular game time.   The 23-year-old defender spent last season on loan at Turkish Super Lig club Alanyaspor - making 26 league appearances for the club. "For now, I’m a Chelsea player. I’ve only been out on loan," Omeruo said on Own Goal Nigeria. "Now that my loan period at Alanyaspor is over, I will be returning to Chelsea for our pre season. Omeruo is now set to start preseason training with Chelsea, who won the 2016/17 English Premier League (EPL) title. Omeruo “No decision has been made if I’m still going out on loan or staying at Chelsea," he added. “The important thing for me is that I’m still playing regularly. “If I will have to stay at Chelsea and not be playing games, then I won’t stay, that is it for now." Omeruo has also been loaned out to Turkish club Kasımpaşa and English side Middlesbrough by Chelsea down the years.
